Desert Dance
Whispering spirits from an ancient land sway in the drooping leaves of solitary trees as the shimmering heat of an outback summer creates a mirage of movement. Snakes slide through Spinifex tussocks and wiry desert plants flower, seed and die as a myriad of insects feast on this harvest. Bony branches of desert oaks lie strewn on the orange soil as ants congregate to feed on the sugar sacks within its woody flesh.
Spiders, wasps, grasshoppers and preying mantis gorge themselves on this plentiful bounty, followed by rhe striding plains bustard bird. Sharp silhouettes and shadows form then disappear as the midday heat tracks to a blazing sunset welcomed by the jewels of the night sky.
